The Carnegie Cultural Center, located in New Hampton’s historic Carnegie Library building, celebrates the rich history, art, and culture of Chickasaw County. Visitors can explore rotating exhibits featuring local history, artwork, and unique collections while enjoying the beauty of this historic landmark. The Center hosts multiple free events and programs each week, offering opportunities for all ages to connect, learn, and experience something new. Originally built in 1910 through a grant from Andrew Carnegie, the Carnegie Cultural Center continues to be a vibrant gathering place for the community and visitors alike.

Hawkeye Buffalo & Cattle Ranch

Venture into the past. Ride a wagon tour into the woods and feed our buffalo. Our tour includes history and facts about bison as well as history of our farm which has operated over 150 years. Reservations recommended for we are a working ranch. The ranch is open sunrise to sunset seven days per week, call ahead to arrange a tour. Tour our herd of 50 buffalo. Ride a wagon into the pasture and feed them by hand. Visit our store. See artifacts.

Little Brown Church in the Vale

The Little Brown Church in the Vale near Nashua is a historic Iowa landmark known worldwide as the inspiration for the beloved hymn “The Church in the Wildwood.” Built in the 1860s, this charming country church welcomes visitors from near and far and has become a popular wedding destination, hosting thousands of ceremonies over the years.
The church is open to visitors daily from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Twin Ponds Nature Center
Ionia, Iowa
Twin Ponds is a 157-acre conservation area near Ionia, split by the Wapsipinicon River into East and West Parks. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails, fishing ponds, primitive camping, picnic shelters, and abundant wildlife, including eagles, deer, turkey, and waterfowl.

The Twin Ponds Nature Center features educational exhibits, live reptiles, amphibians, fish, and bees, along with meeting space available to rent. Birdwatchers can enjoy a scenic bird blind overlooking the wetlands, while anglers have access to two fishing ponds, including one with an electric-motor-only boat ramp.
​
The park also offers modern amenities, including restrooms, showers, drinking water, electricity, picnic tables, and accessible facilities, making it a great destination for outdoor recreation and nature exploration.
